Matt London — Tenor Saxophone; David Howard — Piano
With a growing reputation as a classical contemporary saxophonist specialising on tenor saxophone, Matt London is committed to performing, commissioning, composing and promoting the saxophone as a respected solo instrument. Matt completed his postgraduate studies towards a Masters degree at the Royal Northern College of Music with Rob Buckland, Andy Scott (saxophone) and Larry Goves (composition) graduating with a distinction in 2009. He continues in his efforts to develop a modern sound-world of composition and saxophone performance. In July 2009, Matt received a scholarship to perform at the 15th World Saxophone Congress in Thailand, representing the UK and RNCM in the promotion of cutting edge British repertoire for tenor saxophone and piano, which was highly commended by Jean-Marie Londeix. In the Spring of 2012 Matt was awarded a coveted RVW Trust grant to commission brilliant young award winning composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad to write a solo work for tenor. Having recently teamed up with free improv colossus Paul Dunmall, Matt will now feature on Dunmall’s next release on the FMR Records label with plans to record a full free improv duo record. Matt is the co-founder with Andy Scott, international saxophonist and composer, of the Tenor Saxophone Index, a comprehensive online database and resource centre funded by the Royal Northern College of Music. www.mattlondonmusic.com
