Founded 20 years ago in Bordeaux by Marie-Bernadette Charrier and Christophe Havel, Proxima Centauri is a chamber music ensemble of variable make-up. Composers or pre-eminent soloists, all five musicians involved in this adventure share the same desire to promote current music by means of concerts and educational programmes. Under the artistic direction of Marie-Bernadette Charrier, the ensemble has developed an original repertoire, by interpreting compositions of contemporary composers as well as compositions of great masters of the 20th century. In this sense, it promotes composers such as T. Alla, H-J Hespos, N. Tzortzis, C. Havel, P. Jodlowski, C. Maïda, H. Parra, F. Rossé and others. Since its beginning, Proxima Centauri offers a singular artistic approach by working with scenographers, lighting designers, dancers and plasticians. Regularly invited to perform in France and abroad, the ensemble has taken part in many international events (SIMC, Ars Musica, festival Sonorités, Suona Francese, 38ème Rugissants, festival “Les Musiques”.) and has made tours in Germany, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Peru, Chile and other places. Proxima Centauri is supported by the Ministry of Culture — DRAC Aquitaine, Conseil Régional d’Aquitaine, Conseil Général de la Gironde, Ville de Bordeaux, by Spedidam, and Sacem.
