David Pope — Tenor Saxophone
Since 2000, David Pope has served as Professor of Saxophone at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is active as a concert and jazz saxophonist, a composer, and an author. Since 1995, he has penned the regular column “Creative Jazz Improvisation” in Saxophone Journal. In demand as a clinician, he has presented performances and clinics at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Southampton, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Miami, Bucknell University, and the University of Northern Colorado. In 2011, Pope was featured on two recordings: Ted Wiprud’s Fire In Heaven and Earth (Albany Records) and Matt Smiley’s Quartet Art. He is an authority on multiphonic techniques and has publications with Hal Leonard and Dorn. David Pope plays R S Berkeley “Virtuoso” saxophones and endorses Applied Microphone Technology.
