Stephen J. Rush’s Great Prayer, as performed by saxophonist Jonathan Hulting-Cohen and pianist Nadine Shank on their recital, Echoes of American Jazz, at the 2017 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Based on a poem by Alfonso Cortés
The Great Prayer
Time is hunger, space is cold
Pray, pray, for only prayer
can quiet the anguish of the void.
Dream is a solitary rock
where the eagle of the soul rests.
