Repairman’s Downer: “Gold Plated” SML Saxophones: It’s not gold, bruh

Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of was minding his own business being happy and feeling good about stuff in general when Brian from laid upon him information so dark and disheartening that the only way Matt could unburden himself was by sharing it with everyone else.

SML (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire) saxophones have a dark secret: their gold plated horns are not actually plated with real gold, but instead are plated in “Perma Gold”, a beautiful (but not actual gold) finish that flakes and burns like lacquer but shines (mostly) like gold.
