Medieval music on saxophone: Guillaume de Machaut – Donnez, signeurs

«Donnez, signeurs,» by Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300-1377), arranged for one alto and two tenor saxophones. Notes from the performer:

«This arrangement is based on the edition found in _Polyphonic Music of the Fourteenth Century_, edited by Leo Schrade, and the recording by Gothic Voices on their album _Lancaster and Valois_. I like to imagine that, had Machaut lived about 500 years later, he would have liked the saxophone.

«The piece is in the form of a ballade, but since there is no text involved when performing it in this transcription, I only play through the material once.»
