Jeff Garlin (The Goldbergs, Curb Your Enthusiasm) is an improvising comedian and serious Sonny Rollins fan. In this 2015 interview with Bret Primack, Jeff discusses the unique connection between the improvised art of Jazz, and his work as an improvising actor, comedian and director. After hearing his father play Wes Montgomery recordings, Jeff started listening to Jazz and soon discovered Sonny Rollins. He discusses his love of Sonny’s music and how the Saxophone Colossus has influenced him, as well his Comedic journey, including his improvisational work with Second City. In addition to his favorite comic influences, Jackie Gleason and Jack Benny, Jeff prizes the work of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Ben Webster.
