Excerpts from _Contact_, for alto saxophone and piano, written in 2005 (revised 2009) by American composer James Matheson.

This tour-de-force, technically demanding virtuosic work, which totals about 15 minutes in length, was commissioned by a consortium of saxophonists including, among others, Jan Berry Baker, Phil Barham, Michael Jacobson,James Kalyn, Eric Lau, Chien-Kwan Lin, Clifford Leaman, Kenneth Radnofsky, Debra Richtmeyer, James Romain, and William Street.

These excerpts are taken from the first performance of the revised version, given on December 6, 2009, at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The segments included showcase both the work’s expansive, lyrical qualities, and its rapid, energetic passagework.
