Drawing upon a rich history of ten years of shared collaboration, saxophonists Paul Nolen, Marcos Colón, Paul Forsyth, and Eric Lau join talents in the Iridium Quartet.
The Iridium Quartet is committed to bringing vibrant and passionate performances of new music to their audiences. In 2011, Iridium Quartet began a new American music project, commissioning four new works for saxophone quartet to be premiered and recorded this season. The quartet’s 2011-2012 season began with an October concert tour of Puerto Rico, included an artist residency at the Festival of New American Music, and will include appearances in the United States and in the United Kingdom later in 2012. Iridium’s 2010 season included concerts throughout the United States including appearances in New Mexico, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, and Mississippi.The quartet was also in residence, teaching and performing at the University of New Mexico and at Illinois State University.
Veteran chamber musicians as well as soloists, quartet members have performed and given masterclasses throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and the UK. Members of Iridium have also won top prizes in national competitions including the MTNA National Chamber Music and Solo competitions, the North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition, and were semi-finalists in the Concert Artist Guild International Competition.
The quartet’s first CD will be released later in 2012, featuring the music of Carl Schimmel, Ben Stonaker, Marcus Maroney, Martin Bresnick, and David Maslanka.
