WILL YOU MAKE THE GRADE?
Play a vocal role in the RAF as an alto or tenor sax player.Join our talented team, and you’ll see your instrumental skills go from strength to strength as you play in a wide range of bands and ensembles. It’s also a chance to travel widely as you represent the RAF in the UK and overseas.
It’s a full and active life with rehearsals or musical engagements every day. You could play in an orchestra, jazz band, or chamber group in symphony halls, at graduation ceremonies, or on military parade squares, providing musical support for dinners, dances, and visits from heads of state. You might even play for Her Majesty the Queen’s dinner at Windsor Castle or the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
You will receive comprehensive training as soon as you join us and then extensive opportunities for professional development throughout your career. This will include the chance to gain modular qualifications leading to a musical diploma such as the LRSM, Dip ABRSM or a BMus degree. We may also support you to learn a second instrument.
To succeed, you will need ABRSM Grade 8, or equivalent, on your principal instrument together with GCSEs/CSEs in English language and maths at Grade G/6 or equivalent. A degree or performance diploma would be highly desirable, though not essential. Ready to be challenged in a new and vibrant environment, you will have the ability to play in and pick up a range of musical styles.
