At 20, 21, 22, 23 of November the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Bimhuis and the Conservatory of Amsterdam give stage to international leading saxophonists together with up and coming talent. SAX 2014, International Saxophone Festival Amsterdam celebrates the 200th anniversary of Adolphe Sax, inventor of this versatile instrument.
Special guest of the festival is Branford Marsalis, a living legend playing classical as well as jazz. In addition, the festival welcomes internationally renowned saxophonists as James Carter,
Paquito d’Rivera, Claude Delangle and Vincent David. Dutch top musicians give appearances including Raaf Hekkema, Ties Mellema, Johan van der Linden and initiator of the festival
Arno Bornkamp. Enjoy virtuoso saxophone quartets as theAurelia Saxophone Quartetand the Amstel Quartet
or hear the saxophone in conjunction with the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, the Asko|Schoenberg Ensemble and the Marine Band of the Royal Dutch Navy.
Listen to an exciting mix of music during the concerts, from classical to jazz and pop to world music. Saxophone professionals and enthusiastic amateur players attendworkshops, masterclasses, clinics and form together the Mega Sax Orchestra. Children get Speed Lessons Saxophone Playing and the youngest kids are introduced to music at theSound Playground. The Sax Cinema, festival market, severalmeet & greets and Sax Expo provide a wonderful and lively festival atmosphere. Don’t miss it.
