RULES
1- The 3rd International Saxophone Competition Josip Nochta will be held in Zagreb from May 30th to June 4th 2020 at the Academy of Music University of Zagreb.
2- The Competition falls into three rounds:1st Round: 3 works in given order up to 20 minutes2nd Round: 3 works in arbitrary order up to 45 minutes. The Final Round: 2 works ingiven order (one accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra)
3- The Competition is open to the public.
4- Candidates born on January 1st 1988 and younger can apply.
5- Deadline for submitting the online application is February 15th 2020. The number of candidates is limited. Candidates who apply earlier obtain preference.
6- The application form must be filled out online.
7- Any incorrect information in the Application form will result in disqualification of the candidate.
8- The Application is valid only if the candidate has made the fee payment by March 1st 2020 at the link: https://www.nochta2020.spektar-putovanja.hr/eng-registration.php.
9- The registration fee is 130 EUR.
10- No refund is possible once the payment has been made.
11- Only originally printed scores (if published) have to be used for competition.
12- If the Organizer requests so, the Candidate must send a PDF of the free choice work for the 2nd round to: competition@nochta-saxcompetition.com.
13- Changes regarding the program written in the Application form will not be permitted, except in case of necessity for the free choice work in 2nd round.
14- Official pianists will be available. Each candidate is allowed a 20 minute rehearsal for the 1st round and a 60 minute rehearsal for the 2nd round. Eventual additional rehearsals should be settled directly between the pianist and the candidate. The candidate may bring hisown pianist at his expense.
15-Daily practice according to free place and time, as well as an acoustic check at the competition hall, will be provided for all candidates.
16- The Finalists will have one rehearsal with the orchestra.
17- The Organizer reserves all rights for any kind of audio-video broadcast during all rounds of the Competition without any compensation to the candidates. By applying to the Competition, the candidate agrees to have his personal information (name, last name, date andplace of birth, musical training, etc.) published on the official website, the Facebook page, the program booklets and other promotional material of the Competition.
18- The Jury reserves the right to stop any candidate whose program exceeds the agreed duration without consequences for candidate’s placement.
19- Performances will be held in alphabetic order starting with the letter G (g). The performance order in 2nd round might be changed by Organizer (depending on the program andthe schedule of pianists).
20- All candidates have to contact the Competition office on May 29th 2020, no later than 7 P.M. (if not agreed otherwise by a special permit of the Organizer).
21- The candidates bear the charges for their travel, lodging and food.
22- Up to 10 candidates chosen by the Jury will enter 2nd round and 4 will proceed to the Final round.
23- All candidates will be presented with Certificates of Participation and the Finalists will be presented with a Diploma.
24- Possible complaints against Jury decisions will not be taken into consideration.
25- By submitting the on-line application the candidates indicate that they accept all conditions and decisions of the Competition.
26- In case of any ambiguities caused by the translation, the Croatian text of the Competition rules is considered authoritative.

PROGRAM
• 1st round
Each Candidate performs two works in the following order:
1. Johann Sebastian Bach: Cello Suite BWV 1011 – Prelude –reference urtext, transposition and phrasing on candidate’s choice

2. A work chosen from the following list:
Roger Boutry: Divertimento – ed. Leduc
Alfred Desenclos: Prélude, Cadence et Finale – ed. Leduc
Claude Pascal: Sonatine – ed. Durand
Lucie Robert: Cadenza – ed. Billaudot
Pierre Sancan: Lamento et Rondo – ed. Durand

• 2nd round
The Candidate performs three works:
1. Krešimir Seletković: PORTRAITS – ed. Academy of Music University of Zagreb.Download PDF here. The revised version will also be available soon. The Candidate willreceive the printed version of the work upon arrival to Zagreb without extra payment.

2. A Sonata chosen from the following list:
William Albright: Sonata – ed. Peters
Fernande Decruck: Sonata – ed. Billaudot
Edison Denisov: Sonata – ed. Leduc
Jindřich Feld: Sonata – ed. Leduc
Jeanine Rueff: Sonata for Saxophone Alto Solo – ed. Leduc
Anđelko Klobučar: Sonata – ed. HDS

3. The work of the Candidate’s choice (solo or piano acc.) If the chosen work is with piano accompaniment and the pianist, after having seen the score, comes to the conclusion that one rehearsal is insufficient for quality performance, the Candidate will be asked to propose another work.
