5th Vitor Santos International Saxophone Competition

REGULATIONS:

Art 1
The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities

Art 2
The Competition will have place in São João Theatre, in Palmela, between 18th and 19th of July, 2014

Art 3
The registration in the Competition constitutes acceptance of the official rules and any change made by the organization, in special circumstances.

Artº 4
Categories:
Infant Category:
In this category are admitted musicians until 12 (twelve) years old (inclusive), at the day of the competition.
Juvenile Category
In this category are admitted musicians from 13 (thirteen) years old until 15 (fifteen) years old (inclusive), at the day of the competition.
Junior Category
In this category are admitted musicians from 16 (sixteen) years old until 18 (eighteen) years old (inclusive), at the day of the competition.
Senior Category:
In this category are admitted musicians from 19 (nineteen) years old until 30 (thirty) years old (inclusive), at the day of the competition.

Art 5 :
Stages of the competition :
Categories Infant and Juvenile
Will be decided in a single round, where the participant will present one piece of his/her choice.
Categories Junior and Senior :
The competition will be decided in two rounds:
– First Round: the participant will present one mandatory piece.
– Final Round: the finalists will present one of three pieces suggested by the competition and one piece of his/her choice

First Round

Art 7
If the participant intend to play with the competition’s pianist, should request it in the enrollment form and submit it until the 7th of July, 2014, otherwise the request will be denied.

Artº 8
The rehearsals with the competition’s pianist will have place in the morning and afternoon of the 17th of July 2014

Artº 9
The order of play will be choose by draw

Artº 10
All the participants will have to present a valid identification document, otherwise they won’t be allowed on the competition.

Art 12
The Jury will be headed by Mario Marzi.

Art 13
The head of the Jury has veto power.

Art 14
Assessment methodology :
Each member of the Jury will assess each participant from 1 to 20 values.
In the end of each performance the assessments will be collected and counted. The highest and lowest assess will be removed.
If one of the members of the Jury is the teacher of any of the participants, his assess will also be removed.
The final assessment of each participant will be the average of the remaining assesses given by the Jury.
On the end of each round, the Jury will meet and all the assessments (given by all the juror) for each participant will be disclosed.
If there is a tie the head of the Jury will have veto power.
There can be place for honorable mentions, exclusively on exceptional cases, if the Jury is consensual.

Art 15 :
The Jury has the right of interrupting the performance at any moment.
The Jury’s decisions are unquestionable.

Art 16
There will be admitted 6 participants in the Final Round.

Artº 17
The results will be announced after the end of the round for each category. 

Art 18
FISP organization won’t be responsible for any material damage, before, during or after the competition.

– 1st place: Russomúsica Award – 250€ Voucher for buying a saxophone
– 2nd place: D´Addario Woodwinds Award – Rico Reserve reeds; RICO H Ligature; RICO padded strap
– 3rd place: AVA Award – Book “The Educational Saxophone”, João Pedro Silva and Lino Guerreiro
Juvenile Category
– 1st place: Cardoso e Conceição Award -250€ Voucher for buying a saxophone
– 2nd place: D´Addario Woodwinds Award – Rico Reserve reeds; RICO H Ligature; RICO padded strap
– 3rd place: AVA Award – On the Edge, Sérgio Azevedo + Book “The Educational Saxophone”, João Pedro Silva and Lino Guerreiro
Junior category
– 1st place: GNR Award – Solo performance with the Portuguese National Guard Chamber Orchestra, on the 2014/15 season
Intermúsica Award – 150€ Voucher on saxophone sheetmusic
– 2nd place: D. Caeiro Award – 270€ Voucher on saxophone stuff or repairs
– 3rd place: D´Addario Woodwinds Award – Rico Reserve reeds; RICO H Ligature; RICO padded strap
AVA Award: Quatro Peças Breves, Sérgio + Azevedo + Like a Bandoneón, Paulo Bastos + Book “The Educational Saxophone”, João Pedro Silva and Lino Guerreiro
Senior category
– 1st place: Metropolitana Award – Solo performance with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, on the 2014/15 season
Cannonball Award – Tenor Saxophone – professional model
– 2nd place: Caixa Agrícola Award – 500€
AVA Award – Ostinatus, Lino Guerreiro + Quarteto, Marco Barroso + Book “The Educational Saxophone”, João Pedro Silva and Lino Guerreiro
– 3rd place: Castanheira Award – 300€ Voucher on Vandoren reeds and mouthpiece

Art 20
The awards will be given at the Winners Concert, on the 19th of July 2014 at 21h30. Each category winning participant will have to perform at the winners Concert.

Art 21
If necessary the Festival organization can nominate new Jury members.

Art 22
The registration form should be submitted at the festival official website (www.fispalmela.org), until the 4th of July 2014

Art 23
A copy of the scores should be send by post to:

Art 24
The competition program schedule, with all the information (rehearsals and performance schedule) will be announced until 11th of July .

Art 25
All the participants should have the originals scores of the pieces to perform.
