2nd International Competition «Josip Nochta» will be held from April 23rd to 28th, 2017. at the University of Zagreb Academy of Music

CANDIDATES: All candidates born on January 1st , 1985. and younger may apply

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Deadline for submitting on-line applications is January 15th, 2017. - Candidates with early applications have the priority

PARTICIPATION FEE: Participation fee is 120 EUR

Competition

23.-28. April 2017. University of Zagreb Academy of Music

The competition falls into three rounds:
1st Round – 3 works in given order up to 20 minutes
2nd Round – 3 works in given order up to 45 minutes
3rd Round – The Finals – 2 concertos in given order accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra

Programme

1st Round:

Each candidate performs 3 works in the following order:
a) Petar Bergamo: Domande senza risposta II (ed. Diapason*) - sample PDF
b) Johann Sebastian Bach: 4th Cello suite BWV 1010 – Prelude - reference urtekst, transposition and phrasing on candidate's choice
c) a work chosen from the following list:
Roger Boutry: Divertimento (ed. Leduc)
Alfred Desenclos: Prélude, cadence et finale (ed. Leduc)
Claude Pascal: Sonatine (ed. Durand)
Lucie Robert: Cadenza (ed. Billaudot)
Pierre Sancan: Lamento et rondo (ed. Durand)
* you can get the preview of the score here. All applicants will get the PDF of the score by e-mail upon their application, and the original edition of the piece when they arrive.

2nd Round:

Each candidate performs 3 works in the following order:

a) Mladen Tarbuk: new piece for Alto Saxophone and String Quartet (with String Quartet Sebastian) - (ed. Diapason*)
b) a sonata chosen from the following list:

William Albright: Sonata (ed. Peters)
Fernande Decruck: Sonata (ed. Billaudot)
Edison Denisov: Sonata (ed. Leduc)
Jindřich Feld: Sonata for Alto Saxophone (ed. Leduc)
Jeanine Rueff: Sonata for Alto Saxophone (ed. Leduc)
Takashi Yoshimatsu: Fuzzy Bird Sonata (ed. Billaudot)

c) a work of the candidate's choice
* All applicants will get the PDF of the score by e-mail one day after the deadline, and the original score when they arrive.

3rd Round – The Finals: (with Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Tomislav Fačini)

Each candidate performs two works in the following order:

a) Jeanine Rueff: Concertino for Alto Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra op. 17 (ed. Leduc)

b) a work chosen from the following list:
Jacques Ibert: Concertino da camera (ed. Leduc)
Lars-Erik Larsson: Concerto op. 14 (ed. Gehrmans)
Frank Martin: Ballade for Alto Saxophone (ed. Universal)
Pavle Dešpalj: Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Strings (ed. Southern Music Pub. Co. – piano reduction), (ed. Splitsko filharmonijsko društvo - score)
